Our Story

The Batwa Culture Center Our Story of success through hardships

At the top of a hill in Kitahurira, Mpungu Sub County, Kanungu district stands our Batwa Cultural Centre overlooking the great Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park.

The Centre, although not yet fully equipped and furnished was launched on March 6 2020 in a glaring ceremony that brought together guests from different dimensions of life from the first beneficiaries the Batwa, political leaders of the area, residents, wildlife officials, journalists and other invited guests.

How We Help The Community

Our Community Based Projects

Change A Life Bwindi runs hands-on projects that build skills, income, and resilience in local communities. Women learn weaving and tailoring, former poachers train in beekeeping, and reforestation restores forest land for people and wildlife. Young people, especially girls, gain practical skills and support for education. Each project lets the Batwa and Bakiga communities shape a sustainable future while protecting Bwindi’s natural heritage

Testimonials

Words From Our Visitors & Donors

Alvin Broderick
As a volunteer with Change A Life Bwindi, I worked alongside community members rather than feeling like an outsider. The team listened to local voices and involved me in activities that supported their goals, from helping in training sessions to planting trees. The experience changed how I think about conservation, and I plan to return and keep supporting their work from home.

 Piyush Miranda
Visiting Change A Life Bwindi was one of the most meaningful parts of my trip to Uganda. I met women learning tailoring, former poachers managing beehives, and youth who spoke confidently about their future. Seeing the new trees on the hills and hearing how the Batwa and Bakiga are restoring their land gave me hope that tourism and conservation can benefit local families

Kafumbiri Mugisha
Change A Life Bwindi does more than bring projects. The team listens to Batwa and Bakiga voices and designs activities with us, not for us. From tailoring and beekeeping to reforestation and youth support, every project builds skills and dignity. Our community is stronger, and we know we are protecting Bwindi’s natural heritage for the next generation.

Kafumbiri Mugisha - - Community leader

Bikyezi Tuhairwe
As a girl, I thought finishing school was impossible. Change A Life Bwindi supported my education and gave me practical skills so I can work and study. I have mentors, friends, and a safe place to learn. Now I want to become a leader in my community and show other girls that their dreams matter.
